What you need for this make:

A4 Sheet of White card

Double Sided Sticky Tape or Glue

Felt Pens, Pencil

Card Toppers

Scissors, Craft Knife

Ruler, Cutting Mat

This make was done at the last minute. I didn’t meticulously measure anything, I just used what I had at hand !

  • Take your A4 sheet of white card and fold in half.
  • Lay the folded card on your cutting mat horizontally, with the open ends of the folded card facing you.
  • With the card still folded, align your ruler along the short edge of the card, make sure it is straight and that the edge of the ruler is parallel to the short edge of the folded card. We are going to use the ruler as a measurement for the width of the place cards.
  • Using the width of the ruler as a guide, draw a pencil line onto your card, then cut along the line with scissors, or use your craft knife and carefully cut along the ruler. You should end up with a strip of card the same width as your ruler.  Hey presto ! One name card just about ready, but I think we could make it a bit more interesting.

  • Now to cut a piece of card off the end of the folded name place card we have just made above.
  • Take your name place card and lay horizontally onto your cutting mat. Make sure the place card is still folded in half and that you are not about to cut through the fold. Place your ruler against the short edge of the card at the open end, and again, using your ruler as a guide, cut carefully a width section of your ruler from the card.

  • You should now have two square shaped pieces of card, keep them as we will use later.

  • Put the folded name place card aside for the moment.
  • Take one of the square pieces of card which you have just cut and colour one side with your felt tip pen, in the appropriate colour to fit you table setting. Since my place cards are for Easter I used a yellow felt tip pen to completely colour the square.

  • Once the square is coloured to your liking, cut a piece of double sided sticky tape and stick it on the back of the coloured square in the bottom right hand corner.

  • Before you remove the backing of the other side of the double sided sticky tape. Take your coloured square of card and place at an angle on top of the open end of the name place card. See below, and check to make sure you cannot see the double sided sticky tape (if you were viewing the card from the back). If you can see the tape, rotate the square until you cannot see the tape. Then remove the tape backing and stick.

  • Your name place card should look something like this.
  • Now just to add the decoration and we’re all done !

  • Take your card topper and stick slightly off centre on top of your yellow square.

  • Tah – da ! One sheepishly quick name place card. All you need to do now is write the name of your guest on the card, and repeat the steps above to make as many name place cards as you need for your guests.

HINTS + TIPS: You can use this simple design for Christmas name place cards, just change to coloured square to red or green and add some Christmas card toppers, available from most shops and supermarkets. If you have time draw and colour your own toppers or just add some tinsel or glitter to the squares for some added sparkle !
