First attempt at making a “Maxwell”

Posted by: gtwo on: Thursday, 16 April, 2009

Before I get totally side tracked by all the little experiments I want to try with my new found hobby. I thought I had better show you my first attempt at trying to create a needle felted pooch. Well, that’s not totally true. My first attempt at making something 3d is a bit horrific.

I thought let’s try and make a bird. Should be easy and have less legs than a dog !

As you can or cannot see from this road crash of a bird. Never again will I try to make something like this !

Perseverance, and some time later I decided to try again.

Using a wire frame made from pipe cleaners I first made a dog shape. Then wound some fibre around the frame and began to needle into place. Adding wool here and there to make him fatter and more shapely.

Then to add some characteristic spots.

And finally, to add eyes, nose and ears. Using minute pieces of fibre I attached them to the head.

So I have began my journey to create Maxwell the pup, but I need to get more woollen fibre in appropriate colours and most likely much more of the fibres, as I think this pup maybe a bit too small !
